Art Models Brings Life Nudes to Artists in North America
SALEM, NH – Figurative work is one of the most evocative and poignant
forms of art. But, it is also one of the most difficult forms to pursue,
not just because it is technically challenging and artistically
demanding, but also for the simple fact that models can be hard to find.
Figurative work frequently develops from an underlying form and even
completely clothed or costumed poses may start with a sketch or sculpt
of a nude figure. This makes finding models even more difficult. Imagine
walking up to a stranger or friend and asking, "Excuse me, but would you
come to my home, get nude, and sit still while I sketch for four hours?"
Live Model Books provides a solution to this awkward
situation with their latest title Art Models Life Nudes by Maureen
Johnson and Douglas Johnson. Art Models is a pose book featuring color
photos of nude and clothed models for figurative artists and will be
available in bookstores in September 2006 through Independent Publishers
Group.
For artists who are having difficulty finding models, the
good news is that a live model is often not necessary. According to Mr.
Johnson, “There are many excellent reasons to use live models and the
rapport that develops between model and artist is unique. However, there
are times when it is not worth the expense and difficulty of finding a
model—such as practicing with new materials and techniques or other
kinds of experimenting.” A pose book with quality photos allows artists
to develop technical skills during practice, in between their sessions
with live models. This additional practice leads to more productive
hours spent with models when they can be found.

Several pose books already exist, but a new generation of
photographic technology and publishing software has made it possible to
produce higher resolution books in full color. For example, Mr. Johnson
prefers to use only the latest equipment, “Before a new set of photo
sessions begin, we buy new cameras. This means we can always be
producing the sharpest, highest resolution, most color accurate photos
possible.”
Another advantage for publishers today is that books are
no longer limited to the physical pages contained between two covers.
For example, Live Model Books was able to fit a respectable 536
quarter-page photos in the Art Models print book, but they were able to
include over 3000 full-page photos by putting them on a Companion Disk.
Not only do these photos have detail far surpassing a print book, but
they also provide the ability to zoom-in on trouble areas (like hands,
feet, and faces) from multiple angles and to print particular views.
Live Model Books is an independent publisher specializing
in art reference books http://www.livemodelbooks.com. Art Models Life
Nudes is available online now and will be available to bookstores in
September.
